It is a 2021 American crime thriller film. Directed & produced by Antoine Fuqua from a screen play by Nic Pizzolatto. A remake of the 2018 Danish film of the same name. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal & Christina Vidal with voices of Ethan Hawke, Riley keough, Eli Goree with others.
It received positive reviews from critics. Gyllenhaal’s performance was praised.But it is felt that the remake is inferior to the original film.
Troubled LAPD officer Joe Baylor is working the night shift at a 911 call center. He awaits a court hearing for an incident that occured on duty eight months prior. He answers a call from a woman, Emily Lighton who reveals she has been abducted.
Joe learns that she & her abductor are travelling in a white van, but Emily is forced to hang up before she can provide more details. Joe relays this information to the California Highway Patrol but they are unable to locate the van without the license plate number.
From here starts the tense drama. We get involved with Joe & his frustration becomes ours. He is behind a desk unable to do anything. But his efforts are commendable. If only everybody was passionate about their work!
When the principal photography began in Los Angeles in Nov.2020, a person in contact with the director Antoine Fuqua tested positive during COVID 19 pandemic. Fuqua tested negative subsequently so the production was on schedule. He directed the entire film from a van called Colorspace with screens that had access to the cameras, maintaining contact with the cast & the crew.Wow!
In the film, along with the voices we start imagining the scenario. It is fantastic. Scary ? yes. But very effective!
