A 2022 South Korean drama.Based on a novel by the same name.It won the excellence award in 2016 Korea story contest. It stars Kim Min Jae in the title role, along with Kim hyang gi & Kim Sang kyung.
Yoo Se yeop is a genius physician for the royal family. But is expelled when he treats the king, who dies. Heeee is unable to use his needles because of the trauma. He meets an eccentric teacher in the beautiful gyesu village. He is reborn ass a true doctor who aims to heal people’s hearts.
He gains the nickname ‘Poong’ from a old lady’s son. She has dementia & often calls him by this name. He helps meet her with her son. Later takes up the name to remind himself of the sweet reunion.
This show has a second season. It is coming up after two days. Why do we wait for our favourite shows for years but no sequel??
For Kim Min jae it is similar to the 2019 drama ‘Flower crew: Marriage agency’. It was also based on a novel & set in the Joseon period. A matchmaking agency, it was ahead of it’s times. He was the son of a minister but rarely stayed there. Here, he is banished from the palace but the crown prince his close friend, wants him to survive & reveal the wrong goings in the palace.
Another drama of 2021 ‘Secret Royal inspector & Joy’ has Ok Taec yeon & Kim Hye yoon. A divorcee who helps the inspector to investigate a murder mystery. In ‘Poong..’ she is a widow. Harassed by her mother-in-law, she wishes to die. But the physician helps her.
Set in the lost era it is encouraging to find real heroines for our devoted heroes. It is fresh to see real life depiction! Kudos to the writers!!
