Watching ‘Her Private Life’ made in 2019, for two of my favourite actors Park min young & Kim Jae wook I came across Lee ll hwa, his screen mother! As Lee Sol, she is the retired artist who is Ryan’s biological mother.Her sudden disappearance causes Ryan Gold’s Stendhal syndrome.
She is a blur vision, his mother who is gently whispering, painting on an easel which is just the memory. Abandoned as a child, adopted & moving to the US with his adoptive parents, Ryan Gold suddenly suffers from the syndrome. The mystery unfolds when he comes back to Korea as the museum director.
She comes as Cha Shi-an’s mother . Her other son who is Ryan’s neighbour. After watching the show three times, while writing about it makes me feel I should see it again! It tugs at the heart strings.
She comes across a mother defeated in life. She has not moved on in life. She has a husband & a second child but she is missing her first born. I likes the way she depicted the mother. Her hurt, wounded expression was too real.
Later I saw the ‘Reply Series’ & I couldn’t forget her. She debuted in 1991, a 20 year old still going strong. ‘My love from the star’ 2013, ‘She was pretty’ 2015, ‘Her private Life’ 2019, ‘The King’s affection’ 2021, & ‘Young lady & Gentleman’ 2021-2022 I have seen them all.
She is a soft, gentle person. Angry words don’t become her. Her tears make one uneasy. That is the kind of her potential.
