I Remember..

With childhood come the memories of William.. William Shakespeare, who wrote immortal stories. Then comes the wizard of words.. William Wordsworth. With ‘The Solitary Reaper’ or ‘The Daffodils’ comes another poetry in mind. ‘I Remember’ by Thomas Hood.

I remember the house where I was born… I was born in a hospital. A medical hospital.. but grew up in a house that I remember vividly. From the window in the Kitchen-dining hall came the sun peeping to see what we were doing, homework or eating bread!

I remember the house we later shifted to, which had tamarind trees on which the green parrots played & waited till the sun became hot. They would be on the tree tops chasing each other. Their voices less noisy than the crows, who also came clattering & flew away together. Not a single one was left behind.

Where I used to swing, And thought the air must rush as fresh… My spirit flew in feathers then.. now it’s so heavy. The wings of imagination so light, so soft… now it is all so serious.. so mundane. Routinely we go about our duties.

The fir trees dark & high: I used to think their slender tops were close against the sky. Now I know, it is just the illusion. I know I am father away from heaven. All was well. So clean, so pure & the heaven so near!

The poems made then left a lasting imprint on the mind. I realise now the importance of good thoughts than make a difference in life! If only all got to know about it in childhood! Deprived of the good things in life, uneducated or not having good people to guide you.. the entire life can go waste.

Salute to all those good things in life…
