Bhupendra Singh

An age when Kishor, Rafi, Mukesh rules Bollywood with their songs, Bhupendra created a niche for himself. Gems like ‘Dil Dhoondta hai…” were written by Gulzar. His voice was unmistakable. Along with his wife Mitali he cut many a albums.

His father introduced him to the world of music. Being a strict teacher he inculcated discipline in the small boy. Bhupendra recalls he hated music & instruments for a while due to it. But of course he overcame all & we got a singer like him.

As Guitarist he has “Dum Maro Dum”, “Ek hi Khwaab”, “Chura liya hai”, “Wadiyan mera daaman”‘Chingari Koi Bhadke’,’Chalta Chalte’, ‘Mehbooba o mehbooba’ among others.

As playback singer ‘Hoke majboor’, ‘Aane se uske’, ‘Kisi nazar ko tera ‘,’Awaz di hai’, ‘Thodi si zameen thoda aasman’, ‘Beeti na beetai raina’, ‘Dil dhoondta hai’, ‘Naam gum jayega’ and many others.

Indian playback & gazal industry is at a great loss. He had introduced the Spanish guitar, bass & drums to the gazals.

Recently he died of cardiac arrest in Mumbai. He was 82. We are left with ‘Dil dhoondta hai’ & a lot of memories.
