It is a 2022 documentary. It surrounds the polygamous Fundamentalist Church Of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, an offshoot of mainstream Mormonism.It’s current leader Warren S. Jeffs.
Most of the events depicted in the film take place in 90s & 2000s. But FLD’s history goes back to Joseph Smith’s practice of polygamy during early days of the Mormon Church.
These practices came under scrutiny when Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life prison plus 20 years for being accomplice to rape & for sexual assault on minors. That said, the FLDS still exists, with Jeffs remaining as it’s prophet.
Courageous women who broke free like Rebecca or her sister are exceptions. They are the sole reason how the outer world came to know about it.
Watching it gives an eerie experience. How people live, how their life is driven, how they follow their leader… astonishing.
