A 2018 Indian Hindi comedy horror film. Directed by Amar Kaushik is his directorial debut. It stars Rajkummar Rao & Shraddha Kapoor. Along with Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana with others. The plot is based on the Rayalaseema legend of the 80s known as ‘Oh Stree Repu Ra’ ( Oh Woman, come tomorrow) about a spirit who knocks on people’s door at night.
Made with a budget of 20 crores, it gained 180.70 crores. Stree emerged as a major critical & commercial success. The director was awarded the best debut director at the 64th Filmfare awards.
The film is the first instalment in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe followed by ‘Roohi ‘ in 2021 & ‘Bhediya’ in 2022.
The number ‘Kamariya’ by Nora Fateh Ali is entertaining. Music by Sachin-Jigar lends the film the right atmosphere. The song picturised on Kriti Sanon’ Aao kabhi haveli pe’ is written by Badshah & Jigar Saraiya, doesn’t appear in the film. The rest of the songs are okay.
With less time it would be more interesting. A few scenes just stretch too much. Watchable.
