Drawings..

Watching a sculpture & painting exhibition I felt it was too tiny. Many painters, artists had their work on display but the display was just not proper. The beautiful paintings needed more space to watch.

In a corner two paintings were overshadowed by the face sculptor. The artist was standing beside it & his acquaintances were merrily clicking away. No harm there. But the painting of the ghats wes interesting but in the background.

Rajesh & Prafull Sawant had nice pieces on display. One with a girl floating on still waters was amazing. Her pink dress, leaves & petals floating next to her, her ornaments were nicely done. A bigger canvas made it to the center & watching it was a delight. Her face floating & visible above the water, her feet & hands, the demarcation of water & not in water was perfect.

Nasik, the banks of Godavari with the Hanuman in full glory was one of painting very special to me. ‘Du tondya Maruti’ is the marker of the flood line. We estimate how much waters by his feet, waist or neck in water. If he gets completely immersed, then Govari is in spate!

Remembering the greatest Nasik had Shivaji Tupe, some of the paintings made us nostalgic. We have lost so many greats. How are we going to get some of the glory back?? Atul Bhalerao from the neighbourhood is doing so well like so many others, yet the board hanging outside showing Navin Tambat, Nandu Gawande, Gauri with others shows our loss.

An artist to master his trade takes a lifetime. His death is an instant. The loss irreparable.
