It is there & will be in the future. When Sheryl Sandberg decided to step down from her pedestal all hell broke loose. Her predecessors are hailed as change-makers, Bill gates & Jack Dorsey but she was denounced as a mid -life manic.
For all the glass ceilings she had shattered throughout her life, all the shards now headed her way. Why? ‘Choosing to write the new chapter in her life’ wasn’t reason enough??
Escaping controversies like Cambridge Analytica, unethical data leaks & biased politics she might have felt choked?? She decided to step out than stay inside. Why is it wrong? She made millions in her tenure & is resourceful enough to start something new, that she wants. ‘What women want’ remains a myth.
She did not get the support from women. She was assertive about mothers not giving up. Women representation 50% in workforce & 50% in company boards still remains a dream.
She was thought of being hypocritical & a supreme traitor, trivialising her mission. She is all of 52, having the right to be happy & simply taking some time off to reboot. Steadying her new ship & blending her extended family of five children. Two of her children are teenagers.
She once said, ‘As we get older, our challenges are exacerbated’. In a fitter world, work life spans are increasing, why are women either over the hill or burn out?? If men at 52 can be rehired for the depth of experience, so can women, who are more flexible, adaptable & don’t mind beginning from scratch!
Rinku Ghosh in IE has come up with the article that is a eye opener. Why are a woman’s achievement not her own?? Why is she denied the full credit??
A thought for the day.
