Our Blues

Beautifully written, directed & enacted. The director -writer make it a drama worth watching. The finale drew in the most viewers. They must have felt it should not end here. Incidentally Kim Kyu tae is the same director who made ‘Moon lovers…’ which we have not been able to forget. Specially & specifically the end!

It is the 11th highest rated Korean drama in cable television. No surprise there. It is too good.

The last two episodes deal with the mother-son, Kim Hye ja & Lee Byung-hun. He has always wondered why she never took his side. He was bullied & beaten by his two brothers but she never came to his rescue. She had forbidden him to call her his mother! Her fears & aspirations came through so well.

He realises he never resented her. He wished to embrace her & ward off his mis -behaviour. She had wished to give him three meals & an education. She regretted in the end that she did not realise that this would be enough. Being able to call her ‘mom’ & to love her openly was his only wish.

Simple things we yearn for in life are generally free. We make it all complicated. Holding back when we need to let go, is the biggest mistake done so often. Giving her the outing she wished made her so happy. It was her happiest moment in her life! Thinking from her perspective made him realise how little she got in her life!

She is lost in the world of cats & dogs. She takes care of the animals who are her only solace. She smiles & is happy with them. When he takes her to his house, they are received by Seon ah & her son. Alone with Seon-ah, the mother breaks up in the loveliest smile ever & admits that her son has a soft , kind heart.

So typical. We fail to admit our emotions to people close to us but can easily talk about them with acquaintances. Funny.
