He started as a supporting actor & gradually went on to star in leading roles. ‘Contact’ in 1997 based on Carl Sagan’s novel gave him space with Jodie Foster. He suddenly shifted his roles later in late 2000s. In 2014 he received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame ‘True detective’ brought him his first Oscar & critical acclaim.
True to himself he played every role with sincerity. The best example would be his “Time to kill’ as an honest lawyer. His closing arguments bring tears. He did not wait for justice to happen, he made it happen!
In real life too he made a beautiful speech in the White house. On tuesday he carried the shoes worn by Maite Rodriguez. She was one of the children killed in Uvalde. It is McConaughey’s hometown. Like other Texans he is also a proud gun owner. His plea was emotional & reasonable.
Right to bear arms must not be allowed to override the fact that children & teachers are routinely killed by young people with mental health issues & access to military -grade weapons. Background checks, counselling, reasonable restrictions should be thought of, he said.
He used his skill & the raw emotion he felt after meeting the families of the 19 dead at Uvalde to do what the politicians could not. From reel to real he did his bit. How many have this in them to speak when necessary?? Expressing himself in front of people who have the power to change all of it, wasn’t easy. He needs to be applauded for it. If he is successful it will make us all happy.
A feat better than any Oscar.
