Good Detective

A 2020 South Korean drama that got received well by the viewers. The planned season 2 was delayed after Son Hyun joo tested positive with Covid 19. But the shoot resumed & we are going to be treated with more endeavours of the duo.

A single line story. Doubts arise about a 5 year old murder case. A veteran detective & a young hot shot team up to discover the hidden truth behind the case. Having covered 7 episodes & a lot of ground, still backstories keep on emerging.

Son Hyun -joo,Jang Seung-jo, Lee Elijah, Oh Jung-se, Ji Seung-hyun with others form a formidable team. Every character is authentic. Their real life miseries take us to their world which has nothing make believe. It leads to a gripping tale of suspense.

Son Hyun -joo has been awarded best actor & top excellence award for his works.From 2017 ‘signal’, ‘Criminal Minds’, ‘Justice’, ‘Itaewon class’, ‘The Good detective’ to ‘Tracer’ his genre remains the same. But his roles have variety.

Jang Seung jo is the top shot who appears in the police department & causes a stir. He is junior to Son Hyun joo, but is his senior by rank. It takes time for his team to accept him. He has come into an inheritance & is very rich. But he likes his job.

Starting from 2018 ‘Familiar wife’, ‘Encounter’ where I personally thought he was underrated. With Ji Sung in the lead he had very little to do in ‘Familiar Wife’ & in “Encounter’ with Song hye kyo & Park Bo gum, again he had no scope. Being Song’s husband he had so little footage that one felt his talent was wasted. He just could not speak for his wife.

In ‘Chocolate’ he was the bitter, vengeful brother to Yoon Kye sang. But he had a better role. ‘The Good detective’ remains his best role. With his character in the center & his easy banter with his partner, also not to forget his lovely companion, Lee Elijah! His sarcasm gets to her & her sincerity then wins him over.

A good mystery to watch.
