The death of a singer

Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK was an Indian singer. He recorded songs in Hindi, Tamil, telugu,Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese & Gujarati languages. Born in Delhi he died in Kolkata on 31st May 2022 aged 53.

He made his film debut with A.R. Rehman for ‘Pal’. Later his ‘Tadap tadap’ from ‘Hum dil de chuke Sanam’, ‘Dola re dola’ from ‘Devdas’, ‘Kya mujhe pyaar hai’ from “Woh Lamhe’, ‘Ankhon me teri’ from “Om Shanti Om”among others.

Being nominated for many playbacks in Hindi he received only one in 2009 for ‘Khuda Jaane’ from ‘Bachna Ae haseeno’ But he was awarded for Tamil, Kannada & Malayalam in 2005, 2010 & 2012 respectively.

Not his awards but his ability to transport the listener to another world was phenomenal. Listen to ‘Tadap tadap’ again with your eyes closed & you will know what I am referring to. His songs were generally subtle & the voice lingered with you.

Heart attack after a performance … at the age of 53, another loss after Sridevi who also had her entire life ahead. In 40s it’s said the heart cannot withstand the shock, but after 50s it is mature enough to go through rough patches. All the organs are in the prime. If we say life begins at 40, the person is just 10 years young!!!

Sudden demise makes the heart ache more. We have dreams & wish to hear more, naturally. One gone another takes the place but the loss is forever!!!

May his soul rest in peace. Goodbye.
