Translated as Robber is a 2013 Hindi film with Sonakshi Sinha & Ranveer Singh in leads. It is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. It is partly based on O. Henry’s ‘Last Leaf’. In 1950s, with the backdrop of the Zamindari Abolition act, the newly independent India sees change.
A young con man posing as an archeologist approaches a zamindar to dig beside the temple. He has plans & sweet tongue that convinces the zamindar. His daughter falls for the youth from Delhi. But he has plans of his own.
From the romantic to police chases it changes genre & in between sequences where the lady is ill & loses her father . The film is slow paced & predictable. Sonakshi Sinha excels. But then she never disappoints. I have been watching her from ‘Dabhang’ & she is good at her debut. Salman is his usual.
Motwane brought us ‘Udaan’ which raised our hopes. The critics were pleased but not the audience. From ‘Band, Baja. Baraat’ Ranveer has come a long way but he has nothing new to offer, here.
It is considered as one of the best films of that year but doesn’t sparkle. It’s pace & story with it’s length bothers us. Could have been better.
In the department of Music, ‘Sawaar Loon’ is the best. Hummable & worth remembering. Monali Thakur’s voice is sweet & perfect for the song. No wonder then that Monali won the best female playback singer in the Filmfare awards with Sonakshi Sinha winning the Best Actor female (Jury’s award ).
The two distinct halves don’t make a whole. I had to plod on to finish it.
