It is a 2022 Indian period romantic drama. It is written by Radha Krishna Kumar. It stars Prabhas & Pooja Hegde. Set in Europe of 1970s it tells the story of Vikramaditya, a palmist who is conflicted between destiny & his love for Prerana.
Lavish sets, beautiful locations & a huge budget makes it worth watching. Fans have a field day with their stars but the story gets a back seat. Without an interesting narrative it becomes boring.
It has flashes of too many films we have watched so far. From ‘Titanic’ to ‘Kuch, kuch hota hai’ there is too much that we have watched before. The freshness would have been nice. With the period drama the costumes, the hairstyles do not match. Both of them look modern.
They could have just set them in today’s times with mobiles. They would have been more comfortable. The tussle between the fortune teller & the events happening is an age old story. ‘Ankahee’ the 1985 film by Amol Palekar was gripping. Actors like Amol Palekar, Deepti Naval, Dr Shriram Lagoo,Vinod Mehra took it to greater heights. It was Dr Shriram Lagoo who predicted with the horoscopes.
With tons of Hindi films under the belt, the comparison is inevitable. For a good flick today it has to stand out. It has to be subtle & engaging. The scenes or the scores do not matter! Nor do the stars!!
Also the name is misleading. Because they have an immortal love?? Then the sincerity should have been depicted. The loss, pining for each other appears frivolous with much painstakingly done visuals. Am I being too harsh ??
I love a sincere story with a message without being preachy. It may be not so perfect one but an effort to excel! If theatres made way for ‘Kashmir Files’ & brought down the number of shows tells us the entire story.
