Welcome To Waikiki

It is a 2018 South Korean drama. It has two seasons. The story line is simple. Three young men open a guesthouse to earn money. They want to finance their own film. They have this dream to go to Cannes.

Kim Jung hyun as Kang Dong gu dreams of becoming a director. He has recently broken up with his girlfriend, Min Soo ah. He is very sad & is lost in his sorrow.

Ko Won hee as his sister, is staying with him & wants to be a journalist. She breaks up with her crush over the facial hair she has. He has this annoying habit of picking his nose.

Dong gu’s two friends , Lee Joon ki wants to become an actor but not with his illustrious father’s help. When he acts in a film, he hears the director talking about his father’s putting in a word, he confronts him. His makeup in a remake of ‘X men ‘ when he rides a bus or tries to lift a coin are hilarious.

The other friend is Bong Doo sik who wants to be a writer. Working as a part-timer in a convenience store he keeps himself busy.

With the first episode a baby arrives suddenly. Then the mother Han Yoon ah arrives on their doorstep. It has flashes of ‘Three men & a baby’ a 1987 American movie!! Or ‘Heyy Babyy’ by Sajid Khan , a 2007 Hindi film starring Akshay Kumar with others.

I really thought now I get to see the Korean version but with the mother appearing so fast, it again went back to the three friends. Her back story is yet to be told. I can relate why it was popular among the teenagers.

    1. Welcome to Waikiki is extremely entertaining. Watched it. From your list of under rated dramas I have seen most of them. Not the TRP but the story line or sometimes the actors matter for me.
      Thank you.
