The scene of the funeral is a dead give away. Who dies is not a mystery anymore. Yet how the characters cope with the illness is to watch out for. The reviews are praising Son Ye jin crying her heart out after learning about her friend’s diagnosis. And why not. She rushes out from her cabin, to the lift & then the hospital.
The pinnacle is holding Lee Moo saeng’ s collar! To this day she wonders why she went to him & not her friend Chan young, but her guilt must have guided her there. She cries for him & herself. The advanced stage makes it a death sentence.
People have likened it to the Hindi movie ‘Anand’ where it starts with Anand not being in this world. But I wonder if that is right. Because Anand focused on one character & how he sportingly handles his terminal disease. Of course it will be interesting to see a Korean director dealing with the disease. I love the works of Bengali directors. Here is a chance to put it to test.
The final scene where Yeon Woo jin steps in to hold her hand as she is inconsolable. She drops to the floor on her knees. He steps in front of her, drops to his knees & extends his hand. The gesture itself is reassuring. He has said he never felt what he is feeling in the last ten years. It seems to be the truth.
His being vocal about his feelings is something not out of the blue but different. As he blurts out his feelings earlier when both had drinks, they weren’t drunken words. He meant to tell her or confess, only the drinks made him lose it. Again he appears more humane. The calculated or arranged situation would have been too cliche.
Son Ye jin being proposed, Jeon Mi do breaking up with her boyfriend & Kim Ji hyun being teased by the China town president & chef. One more detail is that along with Lee Moo -saeng’s wife,Son Ye jin’s parents, Ji hyun’s mother,Yeon Woo jin’s sister, Lee Tae hwan’s sister make an appearance. I believe she is his sister or else our third character will have to search more.
Another interesting detail is that Yeon Woo jin knows the other two boys. He is with Moo saeng when Son Ye jin comes to accuse her friend. She had introduced Jeon Mi do to him. Till this day she blames herself.
The length of the blog tells me the depiction is wonderful. A few scenes tell us so much about the characters. The rising viewership reinforces our belief.
