It is a 2002 American film written & directed by Guy Ritchie. It is a remake of Lina Wertmuller’s 1974 Italian film of the same name. The film has Madonna (Ritchie’s wife then) and Adriano Giannini ( son of Giancarlo Giannini, the original film’s lead )
Produced by Matthew Vaughn it was a box office bomb. It received negative reviews & is considered to be one of the worst films ever made.
From ‘Blue Lagoon’ or Tom Hank’s ‘Cast away’ it is miles off the track. The original may have survived because of the fresh look but here Madonna fails us. She is an excellent performer but for an actress more is needed.
In the hands of aa able director it could have looked good. I had flashes of ‘Kaho Na pyar hai” the Hindi hit film with fresh faces & the deserted island. But it had the magic hand of Rakesh Roshan which helped his son to scale heights!
A missable film.
