Yoo Bo ra is the writer of series like ‘Reflections of You’, ‘Just between lovers’, ‘Snowy road’, ‘Secret’ have all one thing in common. The characters have many shades to their personality. Also she makes them down to earth.
In ‘Reflections of You’ as the name indicates it is mainly about self reflection. The lead reflects on her life. How often do we do this? We normally react to the situation never really being aware. It is a reaction, nothing else. But why do we behave in this way?
Also in ‘Just between lovers’ the love part is minimal. Their meetings have more meaning because of their conversation. It is often short but reveals more than they wish. Her parents not happy with her choice know she is comfortable with him. Mr Seo, her boss, a better catch is just too awkward for her. She cannot reciprocate her feelings & feels guilty and uncomfortable around him. She plans to leave as soon as the project is over.
Running away from the situation is the easiest way but not the best option. Sometimes being away gives time to reflect, plan action but it is not the escape route. Should not be used as such.
‘Secret’ again has a dilemma that in itself is unnatural. Min Hyuk learns of his lover a victim in a hit-and-run accident. Yoo Jung takes the blame for her boyfriend. In prison she refuses to give up on life entirely. The situation brings in the best for us. I simply love the leads & know they bring their emotions out the way only they can.
Yoo Bo ra is best when she comes up with situations which make us think & re-think. It never gives a solution but the reflecting makes us more curious about how she is going to go about it.
A tad slow at times, her narrative is never devoid of surprises & situations that make us shout with joy or sometimes weep quietly. This quality of the viewers getting involved personally in the plot is her success!
