As I googled ‘Missing’ I came across too many suggestions that I could handle. What watching all ? Out of question! I can’t. The latest being ‘Yara ‘ that had an impact that I couldn’t sleep well at night & had a bad day after.
Reading into the Indian Express I came upon Umashankar Thakur who resumed his teaching after after a fortnight. I seriously wonder what are people like him made of??
On Sept. 14, his teenaged daughter got on her bicycle to go to his coaching institute at Patauri town in Samastipur. It is 14 km away from her home in Karnauti village of Vaishali.
She was among 300 others, mostly girls, who see Thakur’s Daughters development Group as a gateway to a life of hope & success. She was a class 10th student like them. But she never reached. She was waylaid & murdered by a group of six men led by a man who had got in an argument with her. Of Thakur’s 3 children, this was the only daughter.Within 10 days all the accused were caught & jailed. A week later he was back at the institute.
“I see my daughter in all of these girls who cycle 10-15 km from their villages to the coaching center”says the 45 year old. Just how could he let his grief go away & say these words???
He left his job as a Marine engineer in Mumbai & started this institute ‘to lift the education profile'[ of rural students from Samastipur & Vaishali.The institute has an impressive honours board: 30 government jobs,4 IIT seats, 10 Nit slots, 3 NEET successes, over 100 Army jobs, 70 police placements & above 40 Group- D jobs in Railways. Phew!
“The list of successful students has more than 30 girls. We help all of them to prepare for competitive exams or just clear their school exams from class 9-12. We also speak to students about foeticide, dowry system & try to create awareness among them”
The center charges Rs 300 per month for six hours of teaching on all seven days. Besides Thakur five other teachers also put in their hard work.
If his testing is not complete how much more should he put in?? Life never gives anything on a platter, but the hard work he does should have brought in peace.He has but our minds don’t. Why is it that he is being tested forever!!!????
