Meenakshi Sundareshwar

It is a 2021 Hindi film which deals with a couple facing long distance relationship. The film is directed by Vivek Soni. It features Sanya Malhotra & Abhimanyu Dassani. Music of the film is composed by Justin Prabhakaran with lyrics by Raj Shekhar.

Having crossed the hurdle of the arranged marriage, the newly weds start their journey together. The appointment latter that Sunder had been waiting comes to take him away to Bangalore from Madurai.

His father has an established Saree business but he wants to be independent. An engineer he aspires to work on his own. After his BE he is waiting for a job, which he gets immediately after getting married.

The company wants single employees to focus on work. The six month separation takes a toll. Meenakshi visits him with his father on his birthday to find him enjoying his party. He introduces her as his cousin from Madurai!

She meets her friend in a cafe. She is a die-hard fan of Rajani. She enacts a few dialogues & gets an cheer. He asks, “How is Sunder?” She replies, ‘Sunder is Beautiful!’ But she is missing him.

She goes & watches movie with him. Then he presents her with a saree at Deepam. He also invites her to his tea plantation for job. The family is against it. But she decides to venture out.

The texts & the video calls then change into long silences. Just when he is to give his presentation, she appears. He yells at her. But his mind is elsewhere when he introduces his app ‘Together’. He confesses he made it for his wife, who is his inspiration & leaves.

He searches for her but cannot find her. He is now in a white ‘lungi’ & visiting all the spots she frequents. Rajani’s film is released & he remembers her saying’first day, first show’! He searches the theatre & finds her dancing to the beat.

The end comes gradually & it’s nice. The relationships need some space but also some spice. They need to be tended to. If taken for granted, nothing will come of it. The communication needs to be open. Without any misunderstandings!

Jang Ki-yong ‘s film ‘Sweet & Sour’ did not have a good end. It left a sour taste in the mouth. It is adapted from the Japanese ‘Initiation Love’ by Kurumi. The Indians have a joint family that ties them. If they are gone, the after effects will be the same!
