Anaamika

It is a 2014 Indian thriller drama directed by Sekhar Kammula. It stars Nayanthara in the titular role. With Vaibhav Reddy, Pasupathy & Harshvardhan Rane it makes the cast. A remake of Hindi film ‘Kahaani’ by Sujoy Ghosh, it is a little different.

Shot in Telugu & Tamil simultaneously, the Tamil was titled ‘Nee Enge En Anbe’ which means ‘Where are you, my dear?’ Vidya Balan in “Kahaani” was in search of her husband, very pregnant.

Vidya is in search of people who killed her husband & Anaamika is in search of her husband who has killed people. Harshvardhan in a tiny role remains an enigma. He is not there but we keep on thinking about him!

It reminded me of ‘Roja’. Madhu searching for her husband, an IT software engineer who is kidnapped by the terrorists! It is a 1992 film. A romantic-musical, beautiful visuals & suddenly it changes to a thriller. This in turn was based on the relationship between Savitri & Satyavan of the Hindu epic, Mahabharata.

In ‘Anaamika’ when she says she is in search of her ‘bhartar’ or that she is ‘bharya’ the words have a beautiful sound. Being bound by a relation unique! After marriage, the change is natural but watch ‘Roja’ & you will know what I mean. They are not emoting but living it. So do we! I could never see Madhu in skimpy, stylish or western clothes, her image in a silk saree was itched in my mind. No matter what, I just couldn’t shake it.

‘Proof of life’ a 2000 American thriller starring Meg Ryan & Russel Crowe. Alice’s husband is ambushed & abducted by guerilla rebels. With Thorne’s help she manages to free her husband. It had many twists. More on negotiation & the bond between the leads.
