The Actress..

Konkona Sen Sharma. She is the talented Indian actress, writer &director who works in Hindi & Bengali films. She has two National awards & four film fare awards. If you go by the awards they aren’t much but the talent… unlimited!

Born in Calcutta but educated in St. Stephen’s college, Delhi has the stamp on her work. Like other actresses Bipasha Basu or Nandita Das she is special in the crowd of Bollywood.

She gained attention for her film ‘Mr & Mrs Iyer’ in 2002. I actually thought she was South Indian. Her attire, accent, walk just everything perfect. Directed by her mother & getting a National award (much deserved) for her performance got her going. In “Page 3” she is that reporter who is made to cover the glam world featuring on page 3. Her sensitivity gets to us & how!

The two Filmfare awards for “Omkara’ & ‘Life in a …Metro’ were again the honour of the award! If you look at the length of her role in those films, multi-starrers both, you will be surprised. But she has that quality of making you notice her. She may be just standing twirling the waistband of Kareena Kapoor, her eyes say it all.

She is first recipient of the Best actress at Film fare awards East for her Bengali film ‘Goynar Baksho (2014). In 2017 her directorial debut film was released A Death in the Gunj’ it won her the filmfare award for Best Debut Director. Same year she starred in “Lipstick under my Burkha” which won her numerous international awards.

Aparna Sen’s ‘The Rapist’ won the top award at the Busan International Film Festival. It stars Konkona as the victim. The Kim Jiseok award at the 26th Busan International film festival is no mean feat for ‘The Rapist’! Her trauma, her humiliation at court, her job & prestige at stake, but her confrontation with the rapist is the highlight of the film.

Aparna Sen said she had been thinking about it for years. She has brought in the psychology of the criminal to the fore. Getting a punishment is just one aspect. Why do they do it??? Hoping to watch as soon as it starts streaming.
