I was reading this article on the four roles of famous Korean actors, it felt that I agree with the writer a little & differ also. What today we think of their roles is after they have established their name. As a newbie they may be grabbing what they were offered!
Kim Soo Hyun – Seung Chan (The Producers). This role helped him get the Daesang award & yet I felt strongly why he must have taken this role. After his hit dramas like ‘The Moon embracing the Sun’ & ‘My love from the star’ why did he need to be a producer???
With him pursuing a girl he liked, he joins to be closer to her. She has a boyfriend. He shifts his affection to his boss, who again is interested in her colleague. He comes across an actress/ singer-model IU who likes him, but he does not.
Song Hye Kyo- Cha Soo Hyun ( Encounter). I have seen her in ‘Full House’ & ‘Descendants of the sun’ I could not appreciate her in Encounter. It belongs to Park Bo gum, but her cold manner is something that gets repetitive.
In ‘Full House’ she is a very warm person. Innocent, friendly, a little naive also. With Rain she has the best companion. In ‘Descendents…’ with Song Joong ki who is head over heels, she is swept off the floor. As a surgeon she is real. With Bo gummy she looks a little tired & unsmiling. As his boss she is cold & dominating.
Lee Min ho – Lee Gon ( The King: Eternal monarch ) I liked him in this show. I liked him better in ‘Boys over Flowers’ often wondering why I like a bully! But his gradual change gets to you along with his co-star. ( I have yet to appreciate any other role of hers!) Then in “Heirs’ he is pitted against Kim Woo bin who is the second lead. But he crawls in your heart. Knowing I am being biased, I felt sorry for him in the end.
Lee gon is just another role for Lee min ho! His abilities were not stretched. But one must remain in the reckoning. That is done by his latest show. Till his film comes to the floor.
Park Shin Hye-Cha Eun Sang (The Heirs). She is one of the finest actors ever. As a doctor in ‘Doctors’ she is strong, as against this role. But her financial position makes her so. Her mother works & even stays in the house of Min ho as the house maid. She loves him knowing that she is not a match.
In ‘The Call’ or ‘Sisyphus’ she is much more mature today than what she was earlier. Lets not compare. ‘The memories of Alhambra’ was entirely Hyun bin’s show but she dazzles in what small part she has. We are waiting for a sequel, for him to get out & reunite with her. ‘You are beautiful’ has her in a double role. But it could have been done by any other actress.
Personal views differ. Some of them I like to much to be objective. So it’s tough. Some roles you like & some you don’t.Yet we go on watching…
