A Decent arrangement

A film of 2014 with Shabana Azmi, I had to watch it. It is a story of an Indian -American copywriter who comes to Chandigarh. His cousin, Shabana Azmi, has shortlisted a few girls for him.

He meets one Amita, who he finds is a decent girl, to marry. Then he meets with Lethia Nall, who is visiting India. Coming to India as a tourist, she is amazed he is going for an arranged marriage.

After his parents come to India & finalise the wedding, he comes to know what he really wants. He cancels the wedding, dispatches his parents back to the States & takes a ticket to Shimla, where his heart lies.

Directed, written & produced by Sarovar Banka, it is a short film, that ‘resonates with those of us in search for our place in the changing world ‘. Adam Laupus as Ashok Khosla is a perfect representative of the modern boy who has been in the States since he was four.Shabana as his cousin is dying to find a perfect match.

Diksha basu as Amita is a liberal, modern girl who has her own values. Neena Kulkarni as her mother is the typical Indian mother. She is all praise for her daughter. An only child, Ashok & Amita have no one to share their views with. They have to think & act on their own.

A nice story with a well collected cast to deliver. It is spot on.
