The K2

A 2016 Korean drama with Ji Chang wook & Im Yoon-ah. An action thriller which starts off with a small girl losing her mother. She is lying on the floor with a bottle of pills spread all over.

The girl is taken to a church where she enters her adolescence. She wants to break free & at the first chance she escapes into the free world. The car with two heavily armed people are chasing her.

She comes across Ji Chang wook who is in a hoodie, hiding from someone. He is badly injured & can’t help her. Being Korean she wants his help to go to Madrid. But he hails a cab & goes to the airport.

A few months later he is working at odd jobs when he is called to fix a banner. The building is armed with security. The cleaning woman helps him & he is jumping on the rooftop & fixing the banner. It reminded of him in “Healer”. An illusive contract worker doing jobs for money.

This is a show which begins in a foreign land like a few others. ‘Memories of Alhambra’ begins in Spain. Park Shin hye runs a B&B there. Hyun bin goes there for work. The rest happens in Korea.

In ‘Chocolate’ it begins in France. Then the lead meet again in Korea. The “Bada Restaurant” is where they had met when very young. The chef becomes a Doctor & the aspiring actress becomes a chef.

In “Crash landing on you” they meet in Switzerland when he asks her to take his photo with his fiancee. Traveling North Korea (we wish!) Mongolia with Switzerland, we travel with them.

In “Encounter” they meet in Cuba. Then meet again as employer & employee in Seoul. The reference to Cuba remains their constant & the memories are forever.

In ‘Vincenzo’ the first frame shows him in Italy but the travel restrictions made it impossible. The screen & the superimposition is too perfect. The vineyard & the building looks so real. Later all the events take place in Seoul.

In ‘Vagabond’ the lead pair meet in Portugal. She is working there & Lee Seung gi wants to find out how his nephew died in an aircrash. Later they are in Korea.

The foreign locations are used quite frequently. They add to the drama. Just like “The beauty inside” movie using the Czech Republic for the finale.Yoo Yeon seok meets her there.
