To all those ladies…

When I was watching the Hindi film ‘Maang bharo Sajana’ which showed a love triangle between Jeetendra, Rekha & Maushmi. Jeetendra weds Maushmi thinking Rekha is dead. She never gets to marry him. But his heart remains hers forever..

A beautiful love story. Rekha just manages to over shadow everything & every frame is her ! But when she dies all comes to an end. But raises so many questions. The faithful wife, Sita or Maushmi forever had her husband adoring, worshipping another woman all his life! Did she deserve this??

In “Hymn of Death” a beautiful story of star crossed lovers. He is a playwright & she is a soprano. He is already married. If he develops feelings for another woman, what is his wife supposed to do? She remains wedded to him! Her father- in-law & father have married her to this wealthy, young boy but what do they do later?

In “Devdas” he takes up drinking & drowns in it. Because she married someone else. That husband of hers is not at fault here. He never wanted to come between two lovers. But it so happens.

Glorifying the love between them or romanticizing the tender feelings is all fine. But the injustice inflicted on the third party is never taken into account! Infidelity being taken for granted or saying it is a given just doesn’t justify the wrong doings. What kind of a rut is being set? People have ceased to think it’s wrong!

If we think of a better world , shouldn’t the behaviour be better? Shrinking the concept of love to the love between two people, we have done more harm when celebrating the “Valentine Day”.
