The comparison..

I had longed to see the film,’Ram Prasad..’ but the title is a major turn off. Instead I watched “Pagglait” immediately. The beaming Sanya Malhotra being one of the reasons. After the title let me say ‘Ram prasad..’ is a regular feature Hindi film. The other is a short web film, a quickie.

Sanya is a young widow, glued to her facebook. She also has a rival in the office flame of her husband. She was never admired by her husband & they were practically strangers.

The widow here is old with 6 children & having lived her life at the fag end. Yes, the loss is immense but she has Saksham, a small kid with her. Her neighbour who is there for support.

The exploring of the bond between wife & the other woman , the handling is very unique. They have no relation as such but have lost the most important person in their lives, Their lives have changed forever.

The policy by her husband entitles her to a lot of money. How the people change around her, how they think of re-marrying her in the family… and how she frees herself from the shackles… it is a new thought!

Just shooting in the same house, with a same theme… same? I would say similar! it does not mean the same. The treatment is totally different. If you shoot your lead pair on the beaches, all the romantic films should have been ‘Ek Duje ke liye’! Even the same spots look different in different films. If the banks of Vai where ‘Kaksparsh’ was shot so many serials & films have it. All of them don’t have the grip of that film!

Most of the rom-coms are based on how they meet, the house or hotels may be same but many factors influence the outcome! Both the films have their own merit. Just because they followed each other should not be why one is the copy..it is not!

The film ‘Ram Prasad … was shot but got released later. ‘Pagalait’ came out first. ‘Ram Prasad …’ has been critically acclaimed. All have worked so well. The lock down made people see both. No harm.

If the germ of the story is lifted later it is something different. At the end of it both are good films watch watching for different reasons. I enjoyed them both!
