The third story ‘Star Host’ begins with a youth renting his parents place in Lonavala to a couple. But only the girl turns up. The first meeting where he nearly skids into her on the road, to his shock when she comes to the door as his guest.
He is assembling & arranging the flowers for the welcome, little knowing that she is allergic to flowers! She leaves in a huff only to see that it is getting dark. He persuades her to stay for the night. He promises to arrange a taxi for her in the morning.
Putting away her bags she realises she is hungry. They go to a restaurant. The lady there is old enough to grasp the situation. She advises her to try new things. Being a veggie she has never tried ‘bengan’. She likes the preparation.
Early in the morning she gets up & is watching the lake. When he is talking to the taxi driver, she asks him to show her around. They visit the aviary where the plate reads as ‘Bee ware’.
Then they go to Tapola. It is the mini Kashmir near Mahabaleshwar. After being to these places, avoiding the usual sunset & sunrise spots, also the crowds. It is a nice journey for us. Unhurried & serene.
Time comes for her to leave. Without her ex-boyfriend or the hurt, she has embarked on a journey for herself. She calls him the “Star host” for being just that.
A cutesy story that leaves you feeling good. The hope inherent is what we fall for.
