Gali mein aaj chand nikala..

Tum aaye to aaya mujhe yaad … gali mein chand nikala… You came & I realized today the moon has come out… Being able to see the full moon is a celebration in itself. The moonlight sheds light on so many tender moments.

In 1998, the Hindi film ‘Zakhm’ has this beautiful song picturised on Pooja Bhatt. If she was beautiful in her debut film, ‘ Dil hai ke manta nahi’ here she is more so in the silk sari draped nicely, with a string of flowers on her ‘joodha’.

Imagine an actress today looking like that … with only her wait for her husband to look for… a son to care for ….alone, but having no regrets. The bitterness is never there & that makes her special.

Jane kitne dino ke baad, gali mein aaj chand nikala… she rarely … very rarely gets to see him! The real poetry lies in her life… to accept the waiting & yearning with never a sigh … yeh naina bin kajal tarse…barah mahine badal barse… suni rab ne meri faryaad… gali mein aaj chand nikala…

The simile of the moon is often given to the face of the beloved. But the rarity of him coming over is … highlighted here. the eyes are devoid of kajal… the singaar of a married woman is denied to her… for whom should she dress up, doll up? All of the twelve months of the year come with the rains… the tears…but today it seems the almighty has heard my prayers … the moon is here!

Aaj ki raat jo mein so jati… khulti aankh subah ho jaati… mein to ho jaati baas barbaad..if I slept tonight… I would get up & it would be morn… I would miss the most important moments in my life…

Mein ne tumko aate dekha… apni jaan ko jate dekha… jaane phir kya hua nahi yaad… gali mein aaj chand nikala… I saw you coming… My heart almost stopped….what happened later… I have no idea…

His being Hindu & the girl being Muslim is unacceptable to the family. How long are we going to build such walls around us? We forget that love transcends the religion, sect, caste, creed just everything! Aren’t we torturing ourselves unnecessarily?? The children born of such relationship suffer the most.

Kunal Khemu in one of his best roles as a child & angry young man Ajay Devgan in one of his most unforgettable. The films depict the trauma but after shedding a few tears we are back to square one! When will this change?
