Reading the article regarding the life & work of Dr K Sathidevi I realised hat we know so little about the India Meteorological Department. When they say it will rain, it doesn’t. But when they predict ‘clear skies’, it rains. Recently it is good. Yet the predicts are based on the moody weather.
She says she loves Monsoon & has quite a good memories about the rainy days in Kerala. But Monsoons have been erratic recently. She outlines her day which starts with meetings & recordings of the clouds, coming up with calculated predictions.
She has vivid memories of the July 2005 deluge when she was serving in Mumbai. She was in her office in Colaba, where it had not rained much but the radar images stayed with her. These events have increased over the years & their prediction is difficult.
It is a tough job with very little time for herself. But meditation, listening to music , reading, helps to recharge.
So do we. With our routine jobs we do have stress & the stressbusters are our films & dramas! Also evergreen songs on … you bet! on the rainy season! ‘Rimzim gire Saawan…’ or ‘Zindagi bhar nahin bhoolegi woh barsaat ki raat..’ the mesmeric Madhubala with the rains…
Our Monsoons are all in the mind. Always there.
