The very first Lee that I came across was the Chinese idol Bruce Lee in ‘Enter the Dragon’. All youngsters then were fascinated by his world. It was sharp, spirited & simply spectacular. We were in the films in Bollywood or the dramas enacted in our local theatres.
Like the Woody woodpecker or a show with Laurel & hardy this was something to look forward to. The Fighting & special effects were something that was the base. There was no need of the female character. This was something unheard of. Occasionally if a female entered she was also a good fighter & had only a brief presence.
In the Korean dramas I came across the most popular actor, Lee Min ho. After his “Boys over Flowers’ if he has never looked back, so have we! From his Gu Jun pyo to his latest ‘The King: eternal Monarch’ as Emperor Lee Gon all his shows are dominated by his presence & loved by his fans.
Looking forward to his Series ‘Pachinko’ now. Having reached his zenith in the few shows he did, he is one of the most popular hallyu stars loved all over the world.
Next is Lee jong -suk. Another Lee who never fails to amaze you. From ‘School 2013’ he never looked back. His roles have been more modest than Lee Min ho’s, who is known to sweep all due his charisma.
‘I can hear your voice’, ‘Pinocchio’, ‘W’ & ‘While you were sleeping” got him recognition & awards. He has worked with Park Bo young, Bae Suzy that Min ho has not yet. Both have worked with Park Shin hye & garnered laurels , praise & the next roles.
The other Lee is the one I saw first Lee Joon gi in “Moon lovers”. For months I thought I like it because it was my one of the first shows. But my friends made me realise that any number of period dramas cannot wipe out the effect of it! It is a unique because of it’s story & the star cast! Is it because it is a tragedy & you keep on thinking about it?? We need another season that is the reason.
With period dramas he diversified into thrillers with ‘Criminal Minds’, ‘Lawless Lawyer’, “Hotel Del Luna” & “Flower of Evil”. He is equally effective there. He won awards for the same. But who can forget his Wang so ??
Finally, Lee Dong -wook. “Guardian; The lonely & great God” has Gong yoo in the lead but their bickering is so interesting. As the Grim reaper he is as handsome as Gong Yoo. Go for the scenes between them & you’ll see what I mean. The two ladies are equally pretty but the supernatural powers these two possess are something else!
‘Touch your heart’, ‘Life’, ‘Tale of the Nine tailed’ are some of the shows that showcase his talent. Never changing his hairstyle he comes across as one of the handsome faces we have in the Korean Industry.
I am aware I have not touched on Lee like Lee Tae ri or missed on a few but let’s keep them for the next time. By the way Taeri is one of my favourites from “Extra-ordinary You’.
