Romance is a bonus book

A 2019 South Korean drama in which Lee Jong suk & Lee Na -young play the lead. I was almost frustrated with the beginning. Why is she marrying someone else when they adore each other? What others can clearly see can’t the two involved individuals see ? Do they have temporary blindness ?

At the end of the third episode I am looking forward to the unfolding of the real story. They meet very young. She is older & due to the car accident she loses an year at school. But she is happy to miss school. He becomes her errand boy for an year. Both read all the books in the library. After school he meets her in the hospital, reads for her & generally is happy in the company of the most special person in his life.

Growing up do the feelings change ? They don’t. Why would he catch a cab & visit her place whenever he got drunk. Hearing her voice, seeing her crying or hearing the couple fight.. he witnesses so many scenarios. Why doesn’t he take lead to bring her out of her misery? Only hers .. also his!

I had not liked him because he was the lead in “While you were sleeping” because he makes an entry & Jung hae in becomes the second lead! I am not sure if Bae suzy is aware of what is happening. But I couldn’t bring myself to see the show.

Then I saw him in a cameo in ” Weightlifting fairy…” he visits the chicken joint run by Lee Sung kyung. His smile is impressive. Also the school drama ‘School 2013’ in which he has my favourite actors along with him. Woo bin & Jang na ra. I haven’t yet finished watching the show but I have realised why he has a solid fan following.

In this show he is superb. In the beginning when he doesn’t know that she has divorced, that she is cleaning his house & staying there (she has no place to live ) his reaction of bewilderment is unique. A colourful sweater on black pants only Lee Jong suk can look the way he does! ( I am not trying to remember the sweaters worn by Rishi Kapoor in his various movies. He had the most colourful collection in the Hindi film industry.)

Now I am coming in terms with the publishing staff & the menial work that Lee Na young does. At 37, she reminds me of the lady in “18 Again’ & the flashes of “Hello, Me’ who adjusts to the staff having been appointed by the chairman. In ’18 Again’ she is trying to become an anchor after her twins are old enough to take care of themselves. ‘Hello, Me’ the 17 year old meets her to wake her up. To be her true self & not get discouraged by the situation.

The lady here, Dan-i has sent her daughter to philippines & trying to find a job to support herself. One wrong decision on her part & she is facing such hardships.

The drama becomes interesting now. I am surely looking forward to the next episode.
