Finding Mr Right

It is a 2013 romantic comedy film written & directed by Xue Xiaolu. The Chinese film was a box office hit. The title literally is translated as ‘Beijing Meets Seattle”. Tang Wei as Wen Jiajia brings out all the shades of the pregnant lady. Being pregnant from the first frame of the film was not an easy job.

Except for the opening credits the film was shot in Vancouver. But it created a fever more than ‘Sleepless in Seattle’. Tourism increased & so did the slew of romantic films in Chinese. Hongkong produced more action films than softies.

Wu Xiubo as Hao Zhi, Frank is the driver. He is a famous cardiologist but came to Seattle to take care of his daughter, Julie. His ex-wife is works as a manager in a Pharmaceutical company has plans to migrate to the US.

It has the clips from ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ where Meg Ryan is requesting the old sentry to go up only once to have a look! This film also ends on the roof of the Empire state building.

She travels from Beijing to Seattle pregnant & planning to have her child in the US. She meets the driver who comes 30 minutes late. He takes her to the maternity home. Then on they meet again & grow closer.

He is married with a daughter. His wife earns more than him. She marries again & Jiajia, the protagonist attends it with Frank, the driver. There she faints & has to be admitted to the hospital.

She delivers a healthy baby boy. She is called back by her boyfriend, who is a married businessman. On returning she is unhappy. She breaks up with him. She starts her own cooking website & is bringing up her son, single handedly.

Two years later she visits New York. She takes a photo of herself with her son & sends it to Frank. Frank & his daughter have just come down the Empire state building. They rush to the top. A very typical but satisfactory end.

It also has a sequel ‘Finding Mr Right 2’. Lets find it today.
