An Indian crime drama television series written & directed by Richie Mehta. It stars Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain, Rajesh Tailang & others. The series is set in the after math of the 2012 Delhi gang rape.
The title role played by Shefali Shah as Vartika Chaturvedi. The shoot was completed in 62 days. From the night of the crime to the arrest of the suspects. It has the feel of being there. Without any frills it is too realistic.
I had abhorred the idea of looking at the reconstruction of the crime till today. But when I knew that the crime is used only as the backdrop I ventured to see it. One episode a day is enough. It is so intense, it drains you of energy. How could the actors do such a good job?
The black circles under her eyes & no make up bring to life the sincerity of the Police officers. The long hours they put in, ready to be on duty in the wee hours of the morning all is brought to life in front of your eyes.
The first two episodes were premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival held on 23rd Jan to 3 Feb 2019. Netflix released the show on 22 March 2019.
In 2019, it won the best drama series along with Shefali Shah adjudged as the best actress for the iReel awards. Richie Mehta won the Best writing drama award. In 2020, International Emmy Awards ceremony was lit by the ‘best drama series’ for Delhi crime. First ever to win it.
A second season has been proposed with the same team with a new crime story. Looking forward to it eagerly.
