Maradona

I was reading the article on the great football player about how his heirs are at war for his assets. The known & the unknown heirs having claim on his money. His fairy tale life is having an end that is almost like a daily soap.

I remember him Diego Armando Maradona, as the ball of fire on the ground. Very enthusiast, charismatic, a true game winner. When the world cup was played in 1986 the stadium reverberated with the cry of ‘Argentina!’. I am not much into sports but the fever caught on & it was a phenomenon to watch!

He was given the nickname, ‘the Golden Boy’ & he lived it till the end.Born in 1960, 30 October, a scorpio his life was mercurial as they come. When everyone watched his goals made against England, the players of Germany blocked him so that he had very little chance but his players then made it the team game & won at the finals! It was magic on the ground. After captaining his team to success he became a household name. The number 10 jersey was legendary. Still is!

In 2020, 2 November he was admitted to a hospital for psychological reasons. A day later he underwent emergency brain surgery to treat subdural hematoma. He was released on 12th November. On 25th November he suffered a heart attack & died at his home at the age of 60.

The world famous persons have public lives. The smallest detail is broadcast or becomes news. The media is ever vigilant & the public like to lap it up. There is every possibility of abrasion & deviation from truth. The glorification can distort the facts. But then we do like fiction more than facts. Like Pele, Messi, he became the hero for a documentary made exclusively on his achievements.

By the end of this November, 2021 let us hope he gets a closure & his tale remains a fairy tale & not a sorry tale.
