A 2016 Hindi film which I had not seen till today. For some reason I had never felt like watching it. Lock down has sure done wonders to our screen time! Just over an hour it captures the coming of age age so well!
After ‘Roja’ & “Bombay” I am a fan of Arvind Swamy & he doesn’t disappoint. As a father of a teen he is all that he was before, soft, charming & nothing like a typical hero. Himanshu Swaminathan is perfect. The father decides to leave his son to his hostel in Dehradun. The journey from Delhi to Dun is picturesque & perfect for the revelation.
It is one of the few films made in India to display homosexuality. Without being judgemental it just places the facts in front of you. Meeting the girl in the dark, with the ladder in place is too cliche. Again the principal having the shock of her life is priceless. After getting a week suspension they decide on a trip to Manali is the cherry on top.
It never falters & loosens the grip on you. The other characters like, mother, sister, the grandparents are just there. A small sequence with the bengali baba was unnecessary but there to emphasize that he wants to have a normal dad. Confession & acceptance has been dealt with delicately. A very good film.
