This Korean series was so popular, it was made into Japanese in 2011, 2 years later with 11 episodes. “Ikemen desu ne” made a star of the lead actress Miori Takimoto a former singer in the girl group “Sweets”, which disbanded & Takimoto appeared on television as an actress. She bagged the best actress award for this show.
‘Fabulous Boys’ the Taiwanese drama was aired in 2013 with 13 episodes. Lyan Cheng the lead actress is known for this romantic-comedy series. Jiro Wang, Hwang in deok, Evan Yo were the other three singers in the group, A.N.JELL.
It feels like ‘Dream High’ revisited. Only Bae Suzy is a natural in such roles & I found Park shin hye slightly awkward. Maybe because I know she can be better at emoting. Or she mastered her skills later. Only the ‘Dreams..’ team was learning the ropes & trying to find an agency to launch them, A.N.JELL is set. They have to maintain their position.
The eternal triangle is in place. The girl having a constant competitor is in place. Uee in the role of a two faced actress is novel. I have seen her in serious roles only. The ring in water & the search is common to .. “Boys over flowers”, ‘Meteor Garden’, ‘You are my destiny’, ‘Lovestruck in the city’… I may have missed a few. The girl trying her best to find that ring in the cold waters is so cliche… & yet we have it again!
Another lost item is ‘the hair pin’ when he bought it for her, I was sure it is going to have an episode..! It gets into Uee’s hands & she is wearing it when he meets her. Immediately he knows what Ko Mi nam has lost. Then she falls sick, high fever & he takes care. No hospital because of getting her cover blown up or identity revealed.
I really appreciate this girl living with those guys & not being discovered by all at the agency. Besides the manger & stylist, Mr An is in the dark. Jung Chan or Mr An is also in Uee’s show , “My Contracted Husband’. He has a cameo in “Personal taste”.
