The other woman…

When we write it.. it’s normally ‘Pati, Patni Aur Woh’ but a different dimension can be explored. In the recent one, ‘Pagglait’ Sanya Malhotra, the protagonist married for barely 5 months loses her husband. This widow then discovers a photograph of his husband’s girlfriend in his cupboard.

She goes on to find this girl with her close friend Nazia. She turns out to be his co-worker,Aakansha Roy. Sandhya (Sanya Malhotra) meets the girl again & again. The workplace & her house, she wants to know all about her husband. Once, she loses it & blurts out at Aakansha but also calls her at the station to give back her photograph. She is closing the chapter & moving on!

‘Mujse Dosti Karoge’ had the protagonist giving up her pen pal for her close friend, well almost! The triangle has always been tried & tested in various dramas. But the revelations & the attachment, meaning remains unique.

In “Devdas’ all versions, Chandramukhi never meets Paru ( it happens only in the Bansali version with ‘Dola re dola..’) yet she is never jealous. She is only thinking of minimising his pain. His visits are not for her, she knows & yet looks forward to it.

In ‘Amar Prem’ Rajesh Khanna’s wife has no time for him. She is busy in her kitty parties but yet threatens Sharmila to open her doors for him. The only place where he feels comfortable is now closed. Sharmila’s husband has driven her out & married another of his choice. He has never bothered to see what happened to her.

The institution of marriage took care of the off springs & the age old. With our changing values & over emphasis on the materialistic gains it is becoming a bane. The freedom to choose a mate & to commit oneself to one another for the life time is becoming difficult. With variety comes the dilemma & problems like mine, yours & our!

The world is becoming smaller & smaller, the capacities to endure are also shrinking. The things which happened automatically do not happen. They are to be planned & executed. It is all about , money!
