Hope Aur Hum

A 2018 Hindi film that has a thought that it carries till the end. Normally well begun is half done, but sometimes well begun remains just that & the end comes as a half baked or finished off in a hurry.

Produced by Samira Bandopadhyay & directed by Sudip Bandopadhyay the film retains its flavour till the end. The film stars Naseeriruddin Shah, Sonali Kulkarni, Aamir Bashir, Naveen Kasturia & others have given us a good experience. The reason why, because the seasoned actors together bring in the nuances of the story. Beena is in for a few minutes but the loving, lovely grandma brings in the childhood… long lost & the sweet memories still linger.

A boy in awe of cricket, a sister trying to study for her exams, the parents caring for the children & managing an old parent. Naseeruddin has an old german xerox machine , actually a photo copy machine which has a foggy lens & the copies are not clear now. But he wants the new part & says nothing is wrong with the machine.

His Dubai returned younger son brings him a Japanese brand new machine. But the old man is not happy. As the old age sets in the new technology becomes a nuisance. The world has a pace that cannot be matched now.

The condition of Mamaji’s car is the same. But he is against the idea of buying a new one. He can easily afford one! The selling of the Haveli to change it into a hotel is a major change that is to happen.

With the old & the new coexisting, the story is also about the hope & confronting the fears. The story has an overt track & the hidden one. Both culminate into a whole at the end. I was more happy with the closure. If the end doesn’t sit well with me I remain unhappy for days. Why waste time?
