A 2019 American teen romantic comedy featuring Noah Centineo, Laura Marano, Camila Mendes & others. It is based on a novel The Stand in by Steve Bloom.
Noah lives with his father & dreams to get in Yale. He works at a sub shop with his best friend Murph. Murph develops an app for his friend to offer his services & earn money. He gets this idea when he poses as a boyfriend for his rich classmate’s cousin, Celia Lieberman.
He has three aims in his life… to have a posh car, to have a pretty girlfriend & to get into an expensive school. When Celia tells him about her crush on Franklin, they decide to break up in a party in front of everyone. By then Celia realises that she is not comfortable with Franklin but doesn’t tell Brooks ie Noah. His words sting & she slaps him. He thinks all is going according to the plan.
He gets close to Shelby, now has the prettiest girl with him. But he is unhappy. He misses Celia & Murph who has drifted away. He makes up with Murph in school. He delines all offers on his app. Earning money is no longer the aim. He also decides to apply for Univ of Connecticut as his father wishes, which is offering full scholarship.
He meets Celia & tells his plans. He gives her a letter. Then she comes to his place & asks to accompany her as her boyfriend. They have a party at the sub with Murph. All is well. A feel good film with teens having a tough time with the choices in life.
