Flower of Evil

After watching ‘Moon lovers’ I had wanted to see Lee Joon-gi in another show. But I had not been able to do that. Then I saw a few clips from ‘Flower of Evil’ & decided to see it. It wasn’t available on Netflix. Suddenly I saw the suggestion & started watching.

Into the fourth episode & the tale is gripping. Is he really so evil? Is he the serial killer?? He has a dark past ,sure. His wife doesn’t know about it. She is a cop. They have a daughter. When he leaves her to school or her day care, he is the ideal father. The teacher swooning over him looks up to him as the doting father.

As he gets a call his smile disappears & his face hardens. The transition is phenomenal. “Flower Of Evil” is labelled as one of the most under-rated dramas of last year. It is so. It doesn’t fall into my usual genre but the tale is good & gripping.

As the Prince So, he kills all the people in the hermitage & comes back to his Queen mother with the sword dripping blood. The gore & his expressions were something that should have made us hate him. But instead it felt like an act of attention seeking. As a child sitting in the middle of the street throwing a temper tantrum!

He has a child here & he smiles at her so sweetly. Nobody can think of him having dark thoughts. He imprisons a reporter in the basement, who is also his colleague from school. He has along with a couple of students tortured him. But he lets him live. He has never planned to kill him.

As goes the summary his transitions are seamless. They appear to be effortless. He should have got his due recognition. Every episode ends with a promise & a twist that holds you. I will not say gripping your seat, because you could be reclining on the sofa, but wishing for more.

What I found surprising is we are forever with him & hate the idea that he is caught! He isn’t till now but we are more apprehensive about it. I suppose there lies his charisma!

Moon Chae won in his wife’s role is fit. I had seen her in “Mood of the day” which remains my favourite due to the leads. She has an expressive face & that vulnerable quality about her that one instinctively thinks of protecting her. With Yoo Yeon seok she was a bundle of nerves there.
