It is a 2021 American drama film directed by Ramin Bahrani. It stars Adarsh Gourav as the lead actor with Rajkummar Rao & Priyanka Chopra. It is based on 2008 novel by Aravind Adiga of the same name.
The story unfolds with Adarsh in a driver’s uniform sitting on the back seat of a car. In the driver’s seat is Priyanka & next to her is Rajkummar rao. The next follows as a flash back.
I had expected more of the lead pair but Adarsh has done a good job. Tending to a dark comedy with a feeling of loss. The situation where the driver takes the blame for a crime he never committed. I recalled ‘Cake’ where the young lady hits a passerby & is sent abroad before she is aware of the situation. Someone else goes to jail … all for the ‘Master’.
The stark reality makes us sit up & take notice. Heard that the book is better. Haven’t read it so thais story was all new. An hour could have been covered with tight editing. I recalled “Sir” which ends at the exact time giving us immense satisfaction. That moment got lost here.
