An Assamese short film that is a disarming take on second chances & hope. The director Samujjal Kashyap uses rigidity as a premise & depicts a relationship that benefits from Assertive togetherness & proximity to transition into companionship & attachment.
It is centred around a middle aged couple- Jhurima & Jayanta.Married just before lock down they have been stuck at home. Their togetherness is neither precious nor tiresome, for they are at best, familiar strangers. Conversations regarding household chores constitute their interaction, preceded & succeeded by awkward silences.
Their tenant Choudhary observes that they are stingy with their words. He gives hints to Jayanta & prods him to help her with cutting vegetables in the kitchen. Then to ask some personal questions. He asks her if she has received any love letters. She has from her late husband.
She reads out one & asks him to read one. He opens his diary & reads one that he had written years ago. This scene is beautifully directed. Gradually their frozen expressions get relaxed & they actually start liking each other’s company!
