The Call

A 2020 South Korean film starring Park Shin-hye & Jeon Jong-seo. In 2019, 28 year old Kim seo yeon loses her cellphone while travelling to visit her Sick mother. In her run down childhood house she finds a decade old cordless phone.

She gets a call from a young woman who says she is being tortured by her mother.Seo-yeon finds that the woman on the phone, Oh Young -sook was living in the same house but in 1999. The two start exchanging information about their lives.

Young-sook is living with her adoptive mother, who is a shaman. Seo-yeon lost her father in a fire for which she blames her mother. young -sook sneaks out of her house & prevents the fire. So, Seo-yeon’s reality changes. Both her parents are alive & she is living in her lavish house. Young-sook’s mother punishes her & makes her life miserable. She becomes resentful.

Seo-yeon searches on internet & finds that Young-sook was killed by her mother. She warns Young-sook, who saves herself & kills her mother. Free on her own she becomes a serial killer.

The horror continues as they change the course of events. The realm of actually having a conversation with a person over a phone is interesting to keep you hooked. But the torture & the pain begins to grow on you. It needs to be stopped somewhere.

With light comedies or soft romantic dramas it makes you feel light. Such gore makes it a drama to be watched in the day time & feeling filthy at times.
