In ‘Saimdang’ she is about to marry when she changes her mind a marries someone else. The nobleman remains unmarried. Lee Gyum has almost the status of a prince. The King also holds a special fondness for him. The crown prince by Young Hak No is on the sidelines as the King is supreme.
“Queen for seven days” is one of the most frustrating. Nothing good happens for the lead pair. Here Yeon Woo jin is the prince.He becomes the king. Also gets to marry his childhood friend or sweet heart. Yet he is never happy. His elder brother, the present king (Lee Dong gun) fancies Shin Chae kyung. Played beautifully by Park Min young. The brothers never have a heart to heart talk & listen to people around them. Their love for each other never gets expressed.
“My sassy girl” has Joo won as Gyeon woo who falls for the princess played by Oh Yeon-seo. He is an eminent scholar, the national treasure of Joseon, who has visited the Ming. Later when Prince Choosung arrives, he visits the Princess & declares he can’t marry her. A very brief role for Kim Min joon.
In the land of Princes not all of them shine. It depends on their characters & the scope. Memorable princes already mentioned have something special in them. ‘100 days my prince’ gets in his role in the final few episodes. His eyes blaze with fire & he is then the man on a mission. Being rejected by the noble lady, he plans to win her over.
I was reminded of the Prince in ‘The moon embracing the sun’. Kim Soo hyun has the same fire when he is analysing & putting things in place. His crown princess has to suffer more than most of the ladies I have seen till date.
The historical dramas have something special. ‘The last empress’ has Kang Nara leading a single mom life. She takes care of the child of her husband, which is not her’s. She could have married again but she doesn’t. She has loved the emperor whole heartedly. Shin Sung-rok is a real baddie but wins hearts by the end of the show & as he dies. If only he had met his match earlier…
‘The tale of Nokdu’ has Jang Dong yoon disguising as a woman to save himself. He looks prettier than many women. Also he is dressed so neatly he never comes across as vulgar. He is paired with Kim so hyun. Kang Tae oh is the prince Neungyang who stages a coup & becomes the next King of Joseon.
Jeon Nok-du is the kidnapped legal heir of the emperor but he leaves the palace , politics for the peace in his village residing on the beach. The turn of events is unexpected & the end is most welcome.
