Mumbaicha Jawai

The Marathi films in black & white still reign supreme! The modern day films do not have the depth or the theme . The glossy & westernised taking is all the films are today. Today I remember A gem that had lovely songs, music, actors & a theme that stands out after so many years.

To marry a city dweller is a dream. To marry a Mumbai eligible more so because the opportunities are endless. A simple country girl here aspires to meet someone with whom she wishes to leave all. It is a dream in words. The first ever song dance in the rain where she wishes to follow her dream, meet someone who will share her dream . Only if wishes were horses…

A 1970 film in black & white depicts the same that happens today. From the vast country sides to the congested dwellings where people have so little space.

Aaj kunitari yave, olakhiche vhave.. jashi achanak ya dharni var barsat ali valva chi sar tase tayane yave… As comes down the showers in early spring so should he come suddenly. The surprise is the jist.

Vicharlya vin hetu kalava…tyacha maza sheha julava. Without any words the thoughts should reach, understood! Our hobbies need to be the same! In a few lines it is evident that the expectations are simple yet so difficult to achieve. Hati haat dharave….

Soduniya ghar, natigoti.. nighun jave taya sangati… kuthe techi na thave.. to be together, to leave all & go to a place unknown.. what a thought!

The heroine in nine yard sari gets drenched but it only makes us want rains. She remains fully clad & not vulgar at any point. That is the art of the director & the cameraman. they focus on the changing landscape rather than the full figure. The true beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder & we can identify our own sister or friend who is eager to get married. We have a few around waiting for Mr Right.

With the other equally memorable songs it is worth listening & viewing. Very few films are at that level. Made in Hindi with good artists “Piya ka ghar” also has good songs, but it doesn’t reach that level.
