A 2017 film that centres around the school admissions. Irfan Khan & Saba Qamar are the desperate parents who want their only child, Piya to get admitted to a prestigious school in Delhi.
From getting guidance how to fill up the form to moving out of their house in Chandni Chowk. The school requires that you live in the 3 km vicinity. But the elite society also requires to throw parties & speak in English only.
Still the admission eludes them. Irrfan then learns about the RT Education seats reserved for low income group. They give the required papers & shift to Bharatpur locality. Water is fetched from the common tap & ration from the store where their is a long line. Irrfan also works in a biscuit factory to toughen his hands.
Finally.. Piya is admitted but his friend, more deserving, cannot secure admission for his son. From there begins the real journey! What is education? Do we need a five star school to give our child the right start in life? How can the child’s personality be multifaceted?
I loved the film. It is ages since I have been planning to watch it. It was worth it. More than the other school based films I have seen till date it is the best! We don’t have Irrfan but his body of work remains with us. Aren’t we lucky? Next on the list.. His final film! Angresi medium, of course.
It won the best film & best actor award for Irrfan. One of the highest grossers at the box office. Made with a budget of 14 crores it went to make millions in the international market!
