Today isn’t ‘Father’s day’ or any celebration to congratulate fathers. I just pounced on the opportunity to thank all of them. It is more than a decade that my father passed away but the pain is still there. For certain festivities, a woman requires to have both the In-laws & the parents living … I was fortunate to have them for such a long time.
Then why I thought of a father? Because of Anushka Sharma! She is glowing & enjoying her baby bump. As the newspapers go gaga over Virat Kohli missing on a major tournament because he is on paternity leave! Kudos to him. Not a small role played by Anushka to make him realise it. She was present in the stands for him wherever he played, now it is his turn.
Also is Kane Richardson who is going to join his family. His wife delivered his son just last week. If cricketers are the idols they better show the way to too many ignorant sons of this land who believe it is the wife’s domain.
‘Any fool can have a child. That doesn’t make you a father. It’s the courage to raise a child that makes you a father.’ says Barack Obama. It is indeed the sweat that goes in to teach him well. Procreation is a natural instinct but to make an art of it is the real magic.
The Korean or the Chinese dramas have parents lamenting & taking the blame that ‘I did not teach him well. Please forgive!’ It talks of the parents being humble & trying hard to take the punishment if any.
‘Spare the rod & spoil the child’ to teach what is right & what is wrong needs patience, skill & a heart of gold. It is a must. Haven’t you seen people change after a child’s birth? The dynamics of the family changes.
I am enjoying this new trend of taking care. When both the parents are involved in the child caring & rearing process it will do wonders for the child. The tiny nuggets of doubts can be solved jointly.
In the joint families the mother was free to shift her workload to the numerous members in the family. It is the need of the hour in nuclear families, where both the parents should shoulder equal responsibility. Only then can the child learn the basics. ‘Charity begins at home!’
