That word ‘Goodbye’ should have made me avoid such a story. In the end she dies that was fixed but I thought the master says, ‘My Princess’ but no. The Prince had to be witness to the demise. Also her brother that was too sad.
I knew & yet could not hold back my tears. So many lives gone waste. Here in the Hindi films Meena Kumari was the ‘Tragedy Queen’ her stories had a sad end & people saw her films. But today times have changed & we have so much stress & who will to the movies to see a sad ending?
Perfectly beautiful stars like Peng & Chen, having a screen presence deserved a better story. The river of oblivion should have erased all the past memories but she recovers them after a tap on her head. He has no memories of the past but is sure that she is the one for him!
It ends in his losing her after schemes & bringing the plotters to boot. He loses his mother & father, though alive is but a vegetable. His brothers in the race for the crown prince. His beloved, Ms Sese who has loved him wholeheartedly but he has only used her for his own security.
He comes back from the battlefield having lost his crown princess & without an arrow being shot. He is old & now puts his nephew on the throne. Sets out with a stick on the sand dunes in search of his princess.
His makeup & his face shows the hardening, maturing & pain vividly. I need to see another light show of the pair. They are so good together but have so little time for each other. Pity.
I hope to see the ‘Empress Ki’ with a solid story. There are many parallels found but the treatment must be different.
